Turkey's New Ecodesign Rule for Chargers & USB-C Cables, G/TBT/N/TUR/239
Turkey's Ministry of Industry and Technology has issued a draft Communiqué (DGI-2026/..) introducing comprehensive ecodesign requirements for external power supplies, wireless chargers, wireless charging pads, battery chargers for portable batteries, and USB Type-C cables. This regulation, aligned with EU approaches under Presidential Decree No. 5187 (2022), will impact manufacturers and exporters supplying these product categories to the Turkish market.

- Proposed date of entry into force:
a) for the third paragraph of Transitional Article 1 on the date of its publication, b) for other provisions on 14/12/2028 - Objective: Establish ecodesign requirements to improve energy efficiency and environmental performance of power supply products
- External Power Supplies (EPS) – Devices converting AC from mains to DC or AC outputs, with nameplate output voltage not exceeding 60V DC or 42.4V peak AC
- Wireless Chargers – Products transmitting power up to 50W by inductive coupling with integrated power supply
- Wireless Charging Pads – Similar to wireless chargers but without integrated power supply
- Battery Chargers for Portable Batteries – Consumer products charging batteries in common formats (AA, AAA, D, C, 9V, button cells, etc.)
- USB Type-C Cables – Cable assemblies with USB Type-C plugs rated at 60W or 240W, compliant with USB-IF specifications (Release 2.4, October 2024)

Exemptions: Medical device EPS, uninterruptible power supplies, EPS for transport vehicles, and docking stations for autonomous appliances are excluded.
Key Requirements & Technical Changes- Ecodesign Compliance: All covered products must meet requirements in Annex II and Annex III
- Conformity Assessment: Manufacturers must use either internal design control (Annex IV) or management system (Annex V) approaches
- Technical Documentation: Files must include declared values, product information, and calculation details
- USB-PD Ports: Adaptive EPS ports must comply with USB Power Delivery Specification Rev 3.2
- Common Charger Logo: Products may require the logo specified in Annex III
- Spare Part Provision: EPS not meeting interoperability standards may be placed on market until December 14, 2028 as replacement parts
