The draft standard introduces MEPS, testing, and labeling requirements for electric mains-operated electronic displays. This includes televisions, monitors, and digital signage displays operating on AC single-phase circuits of 230V, 60 Hz (as per SASO GSO 1899), standardized DC input, and battery-operated devices. It establishes minimum energy performance based on a Maximum Energy Efficiency Index (EEImax) and an Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) classification (A-G). The standard also specifies testing methods, aligning with COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2019/2021.
Notably, the regulation excludes certain products such as very small screens (≤100 cm²), projectors, medical, industrial, broadcast, professional, security, and specific digital signage displays. Mandatory energy labels displaying the energy efficiency class, annual energy consumption (for Standard Dynamic Range and High Dynamic Range), and a QR code with product details will be required. Product registration with SASO is also mandatory.
