Mexico has notified a draft Official Mexican Standard, PROY-NOM-037-ENER-2025, proposing new energy efficiency requirements for commercial washing machines and washer-dryers. This standard aims to establish minimum performance values, test methods, and labeling rules for these appliances, promoting energy and water savings across the commercial sector.

This draft NOM is mandatory for automatic commercial washing machines and washer-dryers, including those for laundries or residential complexes, coin/card operated, with a maximum capacity of 226.5 liters. It sets minimum Modified Energy Factor (FEM), annual electrical energy consumption, and Integrated Water Factor (FAI) limits. Products must undergo testing according to NMX-J-585-ANCE-2014 and the NOM's own specifications.
Mandatory energy efficiency labeling (14.0 cm x 10.0 cm, black text on yellow background) displaying FEM, FAI, and energy consumption is required. Excluded are non-electric, domestic (regulated by NOM-005-ENER-2016), non-spinning, or separate-tub machines.
